Week 0 · Set up
Create the course, or connect it from your LMS, invite students, and design your rubric. This is where your effort goes: a good rubric takes real thought, and it pays for itself every assignment after.
Assignment out
Students submit; smart peer assignment distributes each submission to multiple reviewers, balancing workloads and avoiding proximity bias.
Reviews in
Every student gives and receives structured, rubric-anchored feedback. The method weighs each reviewer's credibility as the scores arrive.
You finalize
Compare the weighted consensus with an optional second opinion on one dashboard, adjust anything you disagree with, and publish. The grade is yours, defensibly so.
Our position on AI
Do not fight it. Grade the judgment.
Fairgrade does not try to detect AI use, and does not try to police it. Detection is unreliable, it punishes the honest student with the false positive, and it leaves the actual question unanswered: what does a grade mean once anyone can produce the work?
Our answer is to let students use the best tools available, so that access to AI no longer creates an asymmetry in who can produce the artifact, and to add one step: every student also evaluates the work of peers, and the quality of that evaluation is measured. The artifact can be generated. The judgment cannot be outsourced without leaving a trace, because credibility is earned against the consensus over time.
Once everyone can generate the work, what separates students is the quality of the thinking behind it: what they asked, what they kept, what they rejected, and how well they judge the same choices in others. That is what Fairgrade grades.

Fairgrade is built on LTI 1.3 and LTI Advantage, the integration standard spoken by Canvas, Brightspace, Moodle, and Blackboard. Instructors and students open Fairgrade from their course page. There is no separate login, nothing to install, and grades return to the gradebook your institution already trusts.
Launch from the course page
Instructors and students open Fairgrade from inside the LMS course. Identity comes from the LMS, so there is no separate account to create or password to remember.
Assignments that live in your course
Create or choose a Fairgrade assignment from within the LMS through Deep Linking. It appears as a course item, where your students already look.
Grades back to your gradebook
When you publish results, final grades sync to the LMS gradebook through Assignment and Grade Services, with a confirmation step before anything is written.
Rosters that stay current
Enrollments sync from the LMS through Names and Roles services, so adds and drops during the term are reflected without manual uploads.
Register once
An LMS administrator registers Fairgrade through Dynamic Registration: a single URL, a few minutes, no manual key exchange.
Link assignments
Instructors add Fairgrade assignments to their courses the same way they add any external tool.
Teach
Launches, rosters, and grades flow between the two systems. When a course is copied to a new term, its links are repaired automatically.
